Thinking, feeling, and wanting are interwoven. Where there is one, the other two are present as well. These three functions continually interact and influence one another in a dynamic process. Our mind is continually communicating three kinds of things to us:
- what is going on in our life;
- feelings (positive or negative) about those events; and
- things to pursue, where to put our energy (in the light of 1 and 2).
Thinking | Feeling | Wanting |
Makes sense of the world | Tells us how we’re doing | Drives us to act as we do |
Judging Perceiving Analyzing Clarifying Determining Comparing Synthesizing | Happy Sad Depressed Anxious Stressed Calm Worried Excited | Goals Desires Purposes Agendas Values Motives |
What is going on in our life | Feelings (Positive or Negative) about those events | Things to pursue |
We change undesirable feelings and desires by changing the thinking that is leading to them. Our thinking controls every part of our life. But do we control your thinking? By taking command of our thinking we can take command of all three functions of the mind.
